The speed zone graph provides an overview of the time spent at different speeds during a Quantriq and free skiing, ensuring that training occurs at all speed ranges.
The Speed Zones graph is a histogram that shows the time spent within each 2 km/h ‘bin.’ This helps coaches and athletes gain a basic understanding of whether courses were set too fast or too slow. At a more in-depth level, these graphs allow coaches and athletes to assess whether training covers the full range of speeds expected in racing.
How to use this graph
The Speed Zones graph is a histogram, which groups the time spent skiing into 'speed' bins. Here's what to look for when analyzing the Speed Zones graph:
-
Distribution of Speed Zones
Is the athlete spending sufficient time in the target speed zones? Is the course too slow? -
Comparison to Other Athletes
Is the athlete generally faster or slower than others on the same course? Are they able to sustain higher speeds for longer durations? - Understanding Training Load
Spending more time at higher speeds increases the athlete’s overall training load. Are they gaining more or less from their training compared to others?
- Monitor recovery
As part of a return-to-snow protocol, is the athlete able to reach the same speeds they achieved before their injury?
Speed Zones Graph Elements
Free Skiing
The free skiing bars represent the amount of time skiing, but not in a quantriq.
This Quantriq
These bars represent the amount of time the athlete spent skiing in the current quantriq.
Other Quantriqs
The data for Other Quantriqs represent the amount of time spent skiing, but in quantriqs other than the current one.
Note: Other Quantriqs will show the cumulative time for each quantriq. If you have duplicate quantriqs, then the time spent in each speed zone will be over represented.
Other Athletes
The time, on average, for the other athletes in the quantriq. This data does not include the athlete who is currently selected. In the case where the quantriq has only athlete, this option is not visible. If there is only one other athlete, "Other Athletes" title will be replaced with the other athlete's name.
