Protern can automatically flag a run that is considered invalid or disqualified. They include when an athlete misses a gate, stops, is too slow, or takes too long.
Protern automatically scans the incoming runs to see if they are valid or not. If a run took too long or was significantly slower than the majority of runs, or if the athlete stops mid course, the system will mark the run as invalid.
Protern can also build a picture of the course after a number of valid runs and use that to see if an athlete missed a gate.
Types of Invalid Runs
Invalid Run - Athlete Stopped or Too Slow/Too long
If the athlete stops mid-course, or takes significantly longer than the average valid run, Protern automatically considers the run to be invalid.
Impact on Athlete Analysis and Quantriq Summary
The statistics from these invalid runs will not be included as "quantriq runs" in the athlete analysis or as part of the quantriq summary (i.e. average speed of the quantriq).
Invalid Run - Missed Gate
Protern can automatically determine the course set and scan if an athlete missed a gate during their run. By clicking on the warning, Protern can tell you at approximately what course time the athlete missed the gate. To check for missed gates, the system requires a minimum of 10 runs total that had no stopping and were within a reasonable time/speed threshold.
Note that if an athlete stops after missing a gate, their run will be flagged as "Athlete Stopped" rather than missed gate.
Impact on Athlete Analysis and Quantriq Summary
Invalid runs due to a missed gate are included in the athlete analysis as a "quantriq run". The speed graph and all the "in-quantriq" statistics will include the missed-gate run. For the speed comparison calculations Protern will use the fastest valid run.
How to manually mark a run as invalid
- You can manually mark a run as invalid by clicking on the three dots to the right of the run.
- In the modal window, click on the Mark as Invalid button.
How to mark an invalid run as valid
It is possible Protern can incorrectly mark a run as invalid. There are two ways to mark an invalid run as valid.
- Option 1: You can manually mark an invalid run as valid by clicking on the three dots to the right of the run. From there, click on the Mark as Valid button.
- Option 2: Click on the information icon beside the invalid run reason and in the window that pops up, click Action button and select the Mark as Valid option.
